Your Guide To Handling An Out-Of-Hours Dog Emergency

Dr MATT WILSON MA Vet MB MRCVS

After graduating from Cambridge University in 1991 I spent two years at a mixed animal practice seeing all sorts of animals from dogs and cats, to cows and the occasional zebra from the travelling circus! I joined the Young Vets team in 1993 after deciding to specialise in small animals, and have since become a partner in the practice.

My goal with every patient is to provide a knowledgeable, trustworthy service, and ensure that each and every pet receives the best possible treatment me and my team can provide, plus giving a few treats along the way!

I am married to Jane and have two children and two cats. Louis, is my loyal and loveable companion who is always free for a bit of fuss after a long day. Mitten, my other cat is a later edition to my family, she was bought to our surgery after being rescued from a dustbin in Brentford! She, has a feisty temperament hidden beneath her beauty! She likes to rule the roost, whether at home or in the surgery, she likes to keep everyone on their toes.

I grew up in James Herriot country in rural Yorkshire, surrounded by cats, dogs and horses. This sparked my passion for veterinary medicine, which I was determined to pursue from a young age.

Dr Marta Stawska MRCVS

After completing my high school education in Poland I've embarked on a solo journey of moving to the UK to become a vet. I graduated in 2022 from the University of Surrey and then landed a position at Young's as my first job! I have a great interest and a soft spot for all things feline, which led to my recent adoption of Frances that was left on our practice doorstep with her kittens.

As a new graduate I'm still discovering my further interests within the field, but I've been hugely enjoying the surgical aspect and plan to keep developing my skills in this direction. Outside of work I spend most of my free time with friends at various music events and small gigs.

Dr Nicky Purser MRCVS

"Nicky graduated from The University of Melbourne in 2012 and worked for 5 years in Australia before relocating to the UK. She has worked all over the UK, from Newcastle to Cornwall, before finally settling in London. She has always had a passion for animals and attempted to save every helpless or injured animal that came her way as a child. It seemed inevitable that she would end up in this profession. That may explain the 5 cats her family own back in Australia, ranging from a three-legged Ragdoll to a Maine Coon with deformed elbows.

Nicky's passions in the veterinary industry includes Small Animal Surgery, and she hopes to complete an Advanced Certificate in this area to hone her skills. She also loves facilitating the bond between owner and pet, and takes great satisfaction in developing good rapport with clients and their furbabies. One of the highlights of her career will always be delivering multiple puppies and kittens by caesarean section when she worked for a busy breeding clinic in Australia. During one such procedure, Nicky was delivering puppies by caesarean and she realised part way through the surgery that she had, in fact, delivered the mother by caesarean a few years earlier - that was magical."

Lauren

Dr Lauren Sullivan MA VetMB MRCVS

I've recently graduated from Cambridge University, and I am excited to join the Young Vets team. I've always had a love animal's, from working at a farm park when I was younger to having all sorts of pets growing up. A combination of this and the thought of a career where every day is different inspired my veterinary career. I grew up in the countryside and outside of work I love country walks with my dog, along with trips to the pub with friends and playing netball.

Dr Sophie Crossfield MRCVS

Following my graduation from the Royal Veterinary College in 2020, I went on to work at a small animal practice in Easy Sussex. Now, after relocating to West London, I have found myself at Young's! Growing up I had a variety of pets, from small furries to horses! From a young age I had my sights set on becoming a vet, after experiencing my own pets requiring various veterinary treatment and feeling in awe of the vets providing their care and treatment.

I am enjoying all aspects of general practice currently, and particularly enjoying seeing our feline companions, making their experiences with us as calm and stress free as possible, In the future I would like to undertake a certificate to further my knowledge and experience, however for now I am enjoying everything equally.

In my free time I enjoy spending time outside, either walking or running, as well as cooking and baking for friends and family.

Dr Elan Daniels BA MRCVS

I graduated from Cambridge University in 2022 and working with Young’s is one of my first jobs. I grew up in rural wales and have had a variety of different pets from chickens, rabbits, koi to our most recent addition -a cockapoo, who is certainly the boss of the household! I love the variety that being a vet offers which means there’s never a dull moment! In my spare time I am a keen runner and also enjoy travelling to new countries.
